PARENT TEACHERS AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION
The Association exists to
further the links between home and school and also supports the school by
fundraising for additional items to further the learning experience of our
pupils. Meetings are held, usually in the evening once or twice a term. The
committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting which is held in Term 1. If
you would like to be involved at whatever level, the school office will be able
to put you in contact with the relevant person.
At Rushall we have a very active Parent, Teacher and Friend Association. We
aim to provide the extras that the school budget cannot stretch to. In the last
year we have had a very successful bonfire night, school party, fair and sold
tea and cakes after school each Thursday which has become a pleasant social
occasion.
We have helped pay for school bus trips and future projects include providing
a new climbing frame and digital camera for the children to use.
We have a number of ideas for the coming year including a bonfire night party
and a quiz night, but as always we need as much help as possible to maximise our
money raising efforts.
If you would like to become involved or have any ideas, please don’t hesitate
to contact me, Victoria Allen (Jessica’s mum) or Mrs Pitman.

Parental Questionnaire Results
Below is a brief summary of the survey
that was conducted in the Spring term 2007.
Thank you to all parents who very kindly
filled in the questionnaires. The results have been circulated to the governors
and staff, and all comments and suggestions have been noted.
Methodology
The eldest child
from each family was given an addressed questionnaire, which was to be handed
back to Mrs Ann Burnett anonymously in a sealed envelope. In total, 37
questionnaires were returned, covering 53 children, out of a possible 75.
Results
Parents are happy with the school. They
said that the teaching staff are approachable and they are knowledgeable about
their pupils. The parents evening is well organised, the Head’s newsletter is
informative, the communication between parents and the school is good, the
school is well managed and it has a friendly atmosphere. Only 14% of parents do
not feel involved with the school.
Parents are less enthusiastic
about the surgery time and are less sure about the governors and who they are.
Many parents would be
interested in a Breakfast club, and the majority of parents fell that the range
of after school activities is just right. Suggestions for further clubs included
more or different sports, clubs for reception year children, languages, music
and a homework club.
Many comments were made
throughout the questionnaire, and as mentioned before, they have all been noted
and circulated to the relevant parties.
In terms of positive comments
towards Rushall School, there were many. These included the school having a
calm/friendly/happy/cosy atmosphere, there being a good ratio of staff to
pupils, teachers knowing their children, the children are kind and help each
other, and the children always come first.
Parents did not make many negative
comments about the school, with most relating to personal experiences that they
had had. A few comments were also made about requests for money, the amount of
paperwork sent home, queuing in the playground, not enough seating for children
at lunchtime, homework through the holidays and the mobile classroom.
Many constructive comments were made on
how the school could be improved. These included the use of e-mail as a tool for
communication, a website, ensuring the answerphone is always switched on and the
ability to hire out the hall or field to the local community.
Parents are very satisfied with the
school. This is highlighted by the unanimous agreement that parents would
recommend Rushall School to others, with many having already done so!
Actions
All comments have been noted and over the
past few months we have started to introduce improvements within the school,
some of which are highlighted below.
We are preparing to apply for planning
permission to replace the infant classroom, the governors are producing a
newsletter and their photos can be found on the wall by the hall. From September
languages will be taught across the school, more picnic benches have been
ordered for the playground and a website is under construction, the holding page
of which can be found at
www.rushallprimary.org. A walking club has been introduced and a homework
club has been running during the lunch hour since the beginning of the year.
If you have any questions about the
results, please do not hesitate to contact any of the governors, either via the
school office or in the playground.
